Exotic Pet Surrender Program Continues

The Exotic Pet Surrender initiative in Wisconsin continues this weekend with an event in Monona. These events help find homes for pets that owners are no longer able to care for, and in the process, help protect both the animals and the environment. While it may seem that releasing your animal is the right thing to do, many pets do not survive in the wild; some do, however, and some become invasive and  harmful to the environment.

The Habitattitude Exotic Pet Surrender Event brings together a collection of area rehoming partners that provide responsible alternatives to release for exotic pet owners who are no longer able to care for their pets. J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue (JRAAR) is hosting the July 18th event with help from area organizations, including the Reptile Rescue of Wisconsin, Aldo Leopold Nature Center, Upper Sugar River Watershed Association, and University of Wisconsin Sea Grant/Water Resources Institutes.

When: 12 noon – 3:00 p.m., July 18, 2021

Where: Aldo Leopold Nature Center, 330 Femrite Drive, Monona, WI 53716

Accepting: fish, invertebrates, reptiles, pet birds, small mammals, and plants

This program is possible due to our sponsor Animart Pet Store and Festival Foods and their Paw Away Hunger Program.
